Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial

Today, we observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 17, by honoring the life and legacy of Dr. King and encouraging Centene employees to participate in a day of service. His extraordinary leadership in the struggle for civil rights and message of inclusion inspires us as it does millions of people around the world.

As part of our commitment to advancing a more inclusive and equitable society, Centene partners with The Memorial Foundation, a nonprofit organization that develops innovative educational programs, provides opportunities for meaningful exchange of ideas, and honors individuals who exemplify Dr. King’s legacy. The foundation also promotes awareness, drives traffic to, and maintains upkeep of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in Washington, D.C. In December, Centene sponsored the 10th anniversary of the Memorial, where leaders and community partners gathered to continue honoring his tireless advocacy for racial equality.

Dr. King’s campaign for human rights continues to illuminate the ongoing need to advance social justice, provide health equity, and remove barriers for our members and other vulnerable populations. And, that need has never been greater than during the COVID-19 pandemic. To address this issue, Centene created the Health Equity and Wellness Council, comprised of experts in the field of health equity and works to advance health policies and practices. In addition, we work collectively with our communities to provide access to quality healthcare across the nation.

His words "Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope" from Dr. King’s "I Have a Dream" speech in Washington, D.C. in August 1963 continue to bring us all hope on this day and throughout the year.
