Centene Participates in Global Forum to Advance Society

As a leading multi-national healthcare enterprise with a presence in Spain and the U.K., Centene is ranked No. 57 on the FORTUNE Global 500®. Recognized as an international leader, Chairman and CEO Michael Neidorff has participated in the World Economic Forum ten times, and Chief Administrative Officer Shannon Bagley recently spoke at the Reykjavík Global Forum in Iceland. This marks the fourth year Centene partnered with Forum organizers and joined women from around the globe to discuss best practices and proven solutions to advance society.

“Our commitment to female leadership elevates Centene to this global platform and is demonstrated in our Board of Directors, our workforce of 75% women, and female presidents of our U.K. and Spanish operations,” said Mr. Neidorff. “This forum addresses how we can build a more equitable and sustainable future aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.”

With more than 600 participants from 90 countries, Ms. Bagley participated in a panel session focused on resiliency and our role in defining resilient societies and communities. As panelists discussed how reducing inequality is imperative to recovering from the pandemic, she shared how Centene prioritizes looking at the entire system of care and how Centene enhances its approach to health.

“Whole-person wellness is critical during this time of perpetual disruption as we support our patients, members, and employees,” Ms. Bagley said. She shared examples of how Centene leveraged technology to improve care for our patients, families, and professionals, including internationally at Ribera Salud in Spain and Operose Health in the U.K. “These enhancements include a digital health portal to enable telemedicine with telemonitoring, video-consultation, and telepsychiatry. We were able to utilize virtual assistance and telemonitoring of patients with chronic disease and provide personalized psychological support.”

Ms. Bagley reiterated Centene’s commitment to ensuring well-being is at the forefront of everything we do for our members and employees, particularly with our diverse domestic and global workforce.

“It is truly built into our leadership, culture, and weaved into our employee life cycle,” she said. She addressed how the pandemic has disproportionately impacted women, with many parents and caregivers also feeling exhausted. “To help balance competing priorities, we enhanced benefits, programs, and resources. Yet, we’ve remained focused on fundamental human needs and strengthening our people leaders’ ability to be compassionate and empathetic to support our workforce.”

By harnessing the collective power of some of the most influential and innovative women leaders, the shared information and best practices will help create practical tools for all leaders working to improve society. Findings from the forum conversations will develop and execute on a global agenda to Power, Together for Progress.
