National Foster Care Month was founded by the Children's Bureau, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and is celebrated annually in May. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, more than 437,000 children and youth are currently in foster care. Centene provides managed care for more than 175,000 of those individuals across 20 states and delivers high-quality healthcare solutions to address their unique needs.

Starr, a member of Home State Health, was born with severe medical challenges. Her grandmother, Anna, needed help finding the appropriate medical specialists and treatment for the infant. Home State Health quickly connected the grandmother with a pediatric care manager who streamlined Starr's treatment plan to ensure she accessed the services the baby needed to thrive.

In the below video, Anna shares her gratitude for the specialized support Home State Health provided to help Starr become a healthy toddler.

Improving the health of children like Starr requires a comprehensive, collaborative effort. Centene and The National Foster Parent Association have partnered to bring online training to caregivers nationwide, empowering them to improve the lives of those unable to advocate for themselves.

Going beyond immediate medical needs is part of Centene's broader commitment to vulnerable populations. Our local approach and cooperation with community organizations allows us to deliver the right care, at the right place, at the right time.
