Recognizing Veterans Day and Honoring All Who Served

Centene joins its employees and communities nationwide in recognizing Veterans Day and honoring all who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces past and present. The federal holiday is observed annually on Nov. 11. We celebrate and honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

Centene is committed to helping service members, veterans, reservists, and their families access high-quality healthcare, and we're honored to serve nearly three million military families and veterans as our members. We are proud to extend that commitment throughout our workforce, including our more than 1,000 veterans. In the below video, our employees share how their service in the military now plays a key role in how they fulfill Centene's purpose of transforming the health of the community, one person at a time:

Health Net Federal Services (HNFS), a subsidiary of Centene, has served our nation's military and veterans for more than 30 years. HNFS partners with the Department of Defense to provide healthcare to service members and their families. Through the TRICARE Program, HNFS serves nearly 2.9 million beneficiaries, including active duty service members, veterans, members of the National Guard and Reserve, and their loved ones. Since 2007, HNFS has also partnered with the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), a non-profit organization that provides care and support to those grieving the loss of a member of the armed forces. As a component of the partnership, HNFS provides Military & Family Life Counselors at TAPS events and programs. Military & Family Life Counselors are trained in short-term, problem-solving situational counseling and are well-versed in the challenges of military life.

Centene's dedication to current and former members of the armed forces and their families is further established through charitable giving and strategic partnerships. In addition to a five-year national partnership with TAPS to support suicide prevention and postvention outreach for friends and families of veterans, Centene also supports the Veterans Employment Trajectory (VET) Initiative based in Washington, D.C. Through the VET Initiative, 25 veterans from colleges nationwide attend a 10-week summer internship program in Washington, D.C., free of charge. The program helps student veterans compete for quality jobs, transition to civilian employment, build successful careers, and lead in the civilian workplace.   

In October, we proudly announced the election of retired U.S. Air Force General Lori J. Robinson to Centene's board of directors. Gen. Robinson retired from the Air Force in July 2018 following a 36-year military career demonstrating achievements at the highest levels of strategy, leadership, engagement and coordination. Her experience and perspective will be an invaluable asset to our growing enterprise and to our continued efforts to support veterans with the care we provide.

At the employee level, Centene brings its commitment to veterans to life through our Veterans and Military Families Employee Inclusion Group, CenVet. CenVet was established to provide support and resources for employees who have served in the military and to those related to current and former service members. Those who serve and protect the U.S. are as diverse as the communities where we live, work and serve our members.
