In personalized medicine, also called precision medicine, genetic testing or other cellular analysis helps uncover optimal therapies based on an individual's genetic makeup. Personalized medicine has received increased attention in recent years with the rise of CRISPR, a gene-editing tool that could unlock new therapies for patients suffering from a wide variety of diseases. Medical decisions, best practices, interventions, and medications can be tailored specifically to an individual's predicted response or risk of disease. As the next generation of genetic testing advances in personalized medicine, Centene is committed to supporting the latest research and technology.

In April, Centene announced a partnership with Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis to transform and accelerate research into treatments for Alzheimer's disease, breast cancer, diabetes and obesity. These are common, debilitating and often deadly diseases that affect millions of people worldwide, at all levels of income. As part of the partnership, Centene will fund research at Washington University School of Medicine's Personalized Medicine Initiative, which works to develop customized disease treatment and prevention for patients.

Innovations that arise from the initiative will be available through the ARCH Personalized Medicine Initiative, a joint venture between the School of Medicine and Centene. Reflecting the philosophy of both institutions, ARCH will accelerate the development and implementation of affordable and accessible health solutions based on this research.

The investment will leverage the university's cutting-edge research and biomedical capabilities, allowing state-of-the-art technologies such as CRISPR to provide crucial healthcare data and turn it into meaningful results for Centene's members. Our continued investments in new technology and partnerships with thought leaders have significantly enhanced our ability to scale, coordinate, and deliver care.

As Centene continues to grow, our focus has never wavered. Centene is continually motivated to provide the most effective care that delivers the highest-quality outcomes, and increasing access to this life-changing research is a top priority. Personalized medicine is the next step on the path to ensure members receive the best-possible care. This substantial investment further supports that commitment.
